FIELD NOTES: An Ecological Journal of Nature's Marvels
FIELD NOTES: An Ecological Journal of Nature's Marvels
FIELD NOTES: An Ecological Journal of Nature's Marvels is my take on the nature diaries of explorers in previous generations. In the same way those naturalists would explore new frontiers and carefully illustrate their findings, FIELD NOTES is a collection of my sketches, paintings and notes on the behavior of remarkable creatures in the wild. The animals are re-imaginings of characters you'll recognize from across the DC and Marvel universes, along with other favorites like the Ninja Turtles. The book is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, while still being a great showcase for the real-life animals these characters are based on. I hope to capture the wonder of exploration, even if it's just finding size-changing ants or leather-wearing house cats in your own backyard.
This book collects my work on this project from 2015-2019, including over 100 oil, watercolor, and digital paintings along with pencil sketches. Comics have an immense number of characters to reference, and this book is as comprehensive as possible. Dozens of characters are spread out over 90+ full-color pages. So, from the flora and fauna of Gotham City, or the spider species of New York, to the grasslands of Wakanda, this book will be a visual guide for all the creatures you might encounter.
Each 9”x12” hardcover book features a foil-stamped title on the cover and spine and is Individually numbered and signed by the artist. This limited edition of 500 art books was printed and bound in the Pacific Northwest.
